Upsurge in infra development in NE, more than Rs 5 lakh-cr spent in last 9 yrs: GK Reddy

Minister for DoNER, Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy informed that path breaking efforts have been undertaken in connectivity and infrastructure, and more than Rs 5 lakh crore have been spent over the past nine years which has accelerated the pace of development in the North Eastern Region. Till 2014 there were only nine airports, but now NER has 17 airports. Other ongoing road projects worth over Rs 1.02 lakh crore will foster connectivity and inter-state tourism. An amount of Rs 82,000 crore has already been allocated for enhancing railway connectivity within the region. The project in progress involves the construction of 121 railway tunnels, aiming to comprehensively connect all North Eastern states through an extensive rail network by 2024.
