Adyar River restoration project
Tamil Nadu establishes an SPV for the Rs. 1,500 crore Adyar River restoration project. The 'One River, One Operator' model, led by Chennai Metrowater in collaboration with government agencies, aims for comprehensive eco-restoration. The concessionaire, to be appointed through PPP, will manage existing assets, implement pollution abatement infrastructure, and sustain river ecology. Under the hybrid annuity model, the government contributes 40 percent during the project period, with the remainder paid throughout operations. Current efforts by Water Resources Department, Metrowater, and Chennai Corporation focus on desilting, widening, and strengthening sewage treatment networks for project preparation.
