Kerala clears Rs 143.28-cr bridge construction project
The state cabinet in Kerala has approved the construction of the much-awaited Munambam-Azheekode bridge connecting Ernakulam with Thrissur coastal area involving an investment of Rs 143.28 crore. The cabinet in its recent meet decided to award the contract to Cheriyan Varkey Constructions. The bridge was a long-pending demand of the residents of coastal regions in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. The project has already received administrative and technical sanctions for which 0.2099 hectares in Munambam side and 0.2011 hectares in Azheekode side have been acquired for the construction of the bridge and approach road. The total length of the bridge, which is a part of the proposed Kasaragod-Thiruvanathapuram coastal highway, would be 868.7m long and 15.7m wide. After the completion of the bridge project, transportation between Ernakulam and Thrissur will become an easier affair.
