Under the Sagarmala programme, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is developing a National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat. The NMHC aims to showcase India's maritime heritage from ancient to modern times, adopting an edutainment approach with the latest technology.

The NMHC, a world-class facility, will house extraordinary features such as the world's highest lighthouse museum, the world's largest open aquatic gallery, and India's grandest naval museum. This ambitious project, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 4,500 crores, is expected to be one of the largest international tourist destinations globally.

Furthermore, the complex will incorporate unique elements like the Lothal mini recreation, providing a glimpse into Harappan architecture and lifestyle. Four theme parks, namely the Memorial theme park, Maritime and Navy theme park, Climate theme park, and Adventure and Amusement theme park, will also be part of the complex. Fourteen galleries will highlight India's maritime heritage from the Harappan era to the present, while the Coastal states pavilion will display the diverse maritime heritage of various states and union territories.

Apart from its cultural significance, the NMHC is poised to bolster the region's tourism potential, thus driving economic development. This grand project signifies India's commitment to preserving and promoting its maritime history while providing visitors with an immersive and educational experience.
