MoSPI Tracks 1,775 Central Infrastructure Projects Worth Rs 37.11 Lakh Crore as of July 2026

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is strengthening the monitoring of Central Sector infrastructure projects through its PAIMANA-PROJ platform, with 1,775 ongoing projects worth ₹37.11 lakh crore under monitoring as of July 2026.

According to MoSPI’s latest Flash Report, the projects span 17 Central Ministries and Departments, with cumulative expenditure reaching ₹19.26 lakh crore, equivalent to 51.91% of the total revised project cost.

38% Projects Cross 80% Physical Progress

A substantial share of the projects has reached advanced stages of execution. As many as 675 projects, or around 38% of the total, have achieved more than 80% physical progress, while 305 projects (around 17%) have crossed 80% financial completion.

The project pipeline remains distributed across different stages of implementation, with significant concentrations at both the initial 0–20% stage and the advanced 81–100% stage. MoSPI noted that physical and financial progress broadly move in tandem, although physical progress is higher in the 81–100% range, while financial progress is relatively stronger during the early stages, reflecting upfront expenditure patterns.

Transport & Logistics Accounts for 70% of Projects

Transport & Logistics remains the largest infrastructure sector, accounting for 1,246 projects, or 70% of the total, with a combined revised cost of ₹19.81 lakh crore. The sector accounts for 53% of the aggregate revised project cost and covers roads and highways, railways, aviation, urban public transport, shipping and inland waterways.

The Energy sector follows with 205 projects and a revised cost of ₹10.66 lakh crore, representing 29% of the total revised project cost.

Other sectors include Water & Sanitation, with 53 projects worth ₹2.05 lakh crore; Social & Commercial infrastructure, with 91 projects worth ₹0.99 lakh crore; Communication, with 31 projects worth ₹1.34 lakh crore; and Others, comprising 149 projects worth ₹2.26 lakh crore.

MoRTH Accounts for 993 Projects

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) accounts for the largest number of projects under monitoring, with 993 projects, representing 56% of the total. These projects have a combined revised cost of ₹9.62 lakh crore, or 26% of the total.

The Ministry of Railways follows with 190 projects worth ₹6.38 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Coal is implementing 121 projects with a revised cost of ₹2.22 lakh crore.

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has 103 projects worth ₹4.23 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Power has 98 projects with a revised cost of ₹6.08 lakh crore. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation are monitoring 50 and 38 projects, with revised costs of ₹3.78 lakh crore and ₹2.01 lakh crore, respectively.

735 Mega Projects Under Monitoring

Of the 1,775 projects, 735 are classified as Mega projects, with project costs of ₹1,000 crore and above. These projects have an original cost of ₹28.77 lakh crore.

Another 1,040 projects are classified as Major projects, covering projects below ₹1,000 crore and up to ₹150 crore, with an aggregate cost of ₹4.93 lakh crore.

36 Projects Added to PAIMANA in July

During July 2026, 36 additional projects were brought under PAIMANA monitoring. These included 16 projects from the Department of Telecommunications, nine from the Ministry of Steel, six from MoRTH, three from the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, and one each from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Ministry of Power.

Among the major additions were the Meja Thermal Power Project, Stage-II (3x800 MW), valued at ₹38,358 crore; the Jaipur Metro Rail Project Phase 2 (Prahladpura to Todi Mod), valued at ₹13,037.66 crore; and a six-lane Greenfield Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway package, valued at ₹1,418.16 crore.

Major Projects Commissioned in July

Several significant projects were also commissioned during the month. These included the Srikakulam-Angul Gas Pipeline Project, valued at ₹2,810 crore; the Aligarh-Kanpur Package I (Aligarh-Bhadwas), valued at ₹2,069.6 crore; the Dwarka Expressway Package III, valued at ₹2,298.37 crore; and a 7GW power evacuation transmission system from the Khavda renewable energy zone in Gujarat, valued at ₹224.41 crore.

MoSPI said the PAIMANA-PROJ platform is being supported by PAIMANA-CRIP (Central Repository of Infrastructure Projects), launched in July 2026 as the underlying data repository and input layer. Nearly 80% of the data is updated through APIs on the PAIMANA-CRIP platform, aimed at standardising infrastructure project data and strengthening monitoring and decision-making.
