Centre Allocates Rs 1,000 Crore for Rural Roads, Sanctions 1 Lakh PMAY Houses in West Bengal

The Centre has allocated Rs. 1,000 crore for the construction of 2,400 km of rural roads in West Bengal and approved the construction of one lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY).

The announcement followed a meeting between West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Union Minister also stated that the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned Rs. 8,508 crore for the state for the nine-month period ending March 31, 2027, under rural employment and development programmes.

Chouhan said infrastructure projects worth Rs. 82,492 crore in West Bengal had remained incomplete due to delays and non-cooperation by the previous state government. He added that the hurdles affecting these projects have now been resolved and expressed confidence that infrastructure development in the state would gather pace.

The approved investments are expected to strengthen rural connectivity, improve housing availability and support broader rural infrastructure development across West Bengal.
