The Maharashtra state government has officially confirmed Adani Group's $619 million bid to undertake the redevelopment of Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, covering 625 acres (253 hectares). The project has been hailed as "the world's largest urban renewal scheme" and aims to transform the area into a modern city hub, rehousing approximately 1 million people currently residing in cramped quarters without access to basic amenities.

Adani Group's chairman has expressed commitment to launching the project, envisioning a "state-of-the-art world-class city" that reflects a resurgent and self-assured India, as the 21st century is deemed to belong to the nation. The redevelopment plans prioritize human-centric transformation, with the people of Dharavi at its core. The project poses monumental challenges in terms of scale and complexity, testing the company's resilience, capability, and execution skills.

The redevelopment of Dharavi will offer essential facilities such as gas, water, drainage, healthcare, and more, significantly improving the living conditions of its residents. While embracing the quintessential character of Mumbai, the new Dharavi aims to preserve its timeless essence, showcasing the spirit, grit, unity in diversity, color, and determination that define the city.
