India’s Maritime Sector Valued at USD 1 Trillion Offers Huge Investment Potential: Nitin Gadkari

Speaking at India Maritime Week 2025, the Minister noted that drawing lessons from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), which successfully mobilized Rs 1.4 lakh crore through Toll Operate Transfer (ToT), Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs), and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models, similar frameworks can transform the maritime ecosystem.
He emphasized that private sector participation, which rose from 10% to 35% in the roads sector, can also enhance project execution speed, infrastructure quality, and financial efficiency in the maritime domain through innovation and streamlined fund flow.
During the event, Shri Gadkari also launched the CMEG (RIS) – India Maritime Report 2025-26, titled “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision: India’s Maritime Strides.”
Shri Gadkari expressed appreciation to Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, for advancing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Sagarmala 2.0, which aims to boost shipbuilding, repair and recycling, enhance port efficiency, strengthen the coastal economy, and revive inland waterways.
He underscored that with private innovation, transparent governance, and time-bound execution, India can build enduring global confidence in its maritime leadership and competitiveness.
