India and Thailand Elevate Bilateral Ties to Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an Official Visit to Thailand from April 3-4, 2025, to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on defence, trade, connectivity, innovation, education, health, culture, and tourism, acknowledging the deep historical and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Given the evolving global geopolitical landscape, both sides agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, reinforcing their commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity. The Strategic Partnership will focus on enhancing connectivity—including physical, digital, and financial linkages—by expediting key regional projects such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and its eastward extension, as well as strengthening regional maritime and air connectivity.
