In order to build the classic road network in the hill state, the Union government has recently cleared the construction of 69 new national highways (NHs) in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said, adding that the state government has also got the approval to prepare the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of 58 national highways out of the 69 NHs as quickly as possible. In this connection, the state’s CM directed the concerned officials to prepare DPRs for all the approved NHs. Currently, the state has national highways network of 2,653 km and it will increase to 6,965 km after construction of the newly announced NHs. On completion, these highways would also help in providing alternate routes to neighboring states of Haryana, Punjab, Uttrakhand, and Delhi for transportation of apple and other agricultural produce. The proposed Rohru-Chirgoan-Tikkari-Larot-Chanshal-Dodra-Kwar national highway will not only provide alternative link to Haridwar and Chardham religious places in Uttrakhand but will also give boost to tourism development in the state, he added.
