Adding to its project portfolio in the construction sector, the Hindustan Construction Company has been awarded two contracts worth Rs 623-cr in the hydro power and tunneling sectors, President & CEO - E&C, Arun Karambelkar, said, adding that the first order, which involves Rs 456-cr investment has been secured from the Tangsibji Hydro Energy Ltd of Bhutan and the second one is worth Rs 167-cr from JKSPDC. The order from the Tangsibji Hydro Energy Ltd of Bhutan is for constructing 118 MW Nikachhu Hydropower Project in Trongsa district on the EPC model and that it is slated to be executed in 48 months. This will be the second hydroelectric power project awarded to HCC on EPC basis and fifth project in Bhutan. Recently, the company has completed 124MW Dagachhu hydroelectric power project on EPC model in Dagana district of Bhutan. HCC is associated with construction of four Hydropower project including 60 MW Kiruchu HEP, 1020 MW Tala HEP, 126 MW Dagachhu HEP and Package MC3 of 1200MW Punatsangchhu-I HEP. The second order from the JKSPDC involves the construction of a double lane tunnel of approx. 1500m length which shall be the access road to 1856 MW Sawalkote Hydroelectric Power Project in Jammu & Kashmir. This is also an EPC contract involving investigation, design and construction of the tunnel and that the project is to be completed in 30 months. The orders reflect the growing confidence in HCC's capability to execute key projects in the challenging terrain of the Himalayan ranges as it has already delivered four hydro electric projects in Bhutan, he added.
