GVMC floats tenders for ₹109-cr infra project

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is floating tenders for the ₹109 crore redevelopment project of RK Beach, being financed by the World Bank. The tenders were supposed to be finalized by May this year but were delayed by the pandemic. GVMC commissioner, G Srijana informed that the work on the project is slated to begin in October and will be completed within 12 months. The project is conforming to the World Bank norms and has taken all measures for it to take off. Proposed over a length of 3.5 km from RK Beach to the Park Hotel junction, the project will be executed without affecting environmental parameters and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) norms. It includes soft and hard landscaping, and water fountains will be set up, and public utilities such as toilets, bus terminals and parking lots will be placed at every one km. Work on the construction of retaining walls along the beach on a stretch of 1.5 km will also be taken up.
