Gurgaon sets to start 55 affordable housing projects

As many as 55 affordable housing projects that are to come up on around 380 acres in Gurugram and Sohna area in the NCR are set to get clearance with the developers, seeking licence for kick starting new projects with potentials to build three lakh units in Gurugram. In Sohna, six new licences are likely to be granted for construction of affordable housing projects on around 30 acres of land, said, official sources. In this connection, in February, department of town and country planning (DTCP) invited fresh applications for licences to build the targeted housing units. Based on the earlier cap, DTCP had issued affordable housing licences over 300 acres, on which around 46,000 units are currently at different stages of completion, in sectors along Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), also known as Dwarka Expressway, and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). Chairman of building major Signature Global Pradeep Agarwal said that his company has seven affordable housing projects in Gurugram and that the state government is working on a multi-pronged strategy to help boost affordable housing under which it is working to help developers contain the cost of affordable homes by reducing the approval time span for projects.
