Gurgaon gets own metro authority

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority
In its quest to build matching infrastructure in and around the city, Haryana Cabinet has recently approved the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Ordinance, 2017, and the new nodal agency will be spearheaded by the state Chief Minister as its chairperson. In addition, there will be a resident’s advisory council to advise GMDA and provide guidance on the exercise of its powers and performance of its functions. The council will consist of a chief executive officer (CEO), who will preside over its meeting, and other members. The ordinance aims at developing vision for the continued, sustained and balanced growth of Gurugram metropolitan area by providing quality of life and reasonable standard of living to the residents through generation of employment opportunities. Under the ordinance, the state government may, by notification, declare any area falling within the limits of controlled areas in Gurugram district to be notified area, having the potential for urban expansion. These would include area under any or all of the local authorities like Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Municipal Council of Sohna, Municipal Committees of Pataudi, Farrukh Nagar and Hailey Mandi and any panchayat in the district till the habitation limit in the given village, said official sources.
