Govt to Shift to 'Lane km' Measurement for Highway Construction
The government is considering a shift in the method of measuring highway construction in the country from 'road km' to 'lane km' starting this financial year. This adjustment comes as the focus shifts towards constructing more expressways and roads with at least four lanes. To maintain consistency in data comparison, national highway construction details from previous years will be converted to lane km. Currently, the linear length method is used for measuring progress, treating both a single kilometre of a six-lane road and a two-lane road as 1km. This change reflects the evolving infrastructure priorities, emphasizing high-speed roads and expressways.
