Promising to build roads worth Rs.2 lakh crore in UP in the next two years, the Transport Minister exhorted the state government to fast track the land acquisition in the state so that these projects could be started on fast-tracked basis, said official sources, elaborating that projects worth Rs.60,000 crore are already in the pipeline, including that of the Lucknow bypass project. In view of the importance of Kumbh, his ministry has decided to extend Varanasi-Haldia waterways project to Allahabad as well. Apart from promising water transport on this route before the 2019 Kumbh Mela the government has also sanctioned Rs.2,000 crore bridge over Ganga in Allahabad and has given Rs.10,000 crore to UP from Central Road Fund and that in the next three months, the central government also plans to come out with a law for the operation of seaplanes. Apart from this, the transport ministry has already declared that Lucknow-Kanpur highway will be developed as an expressway and expanded to an eight-lane road. He also declared that Delhi-Meerut highway will be developed into an 18-lane road and once complete, the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be covered within 40 minutes. The road up to Dasna is complete and the rest of the project will be completed within a couple of months, they claimed.
