Govt targets 5,507-km NHs under Bharatmala in NE

In a bid to build a world-class road network in the entire north eastern belt of the country, the government has targeted construction of 5,507 km roads under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, said transport ministry sources. MoRTH has taken up massive road development program in the North-Eastern region under Special Accelerated Road Development Program-North East (SARDP-NE). Under the program 2,910 km roads have already been constructed and 3508 km are under implementation. The new umbrella program for the highways sector focuses on optimizing efficiency of freight and passenger movement across the country by bridging critical infrastructure gaps through effective interventions, which include development of Economic Corridors, Inter Corridors and Feeder Routes, National Corridor Efficiency Improvement, Border and International connectivity roads, Coastal and Port connectivity roads and greenfield expressways.
