Govt. speeds up 284-km Wardha-Nanded rail line

After the completion of the land acquisition process for the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded broad gauge railway line, the Maharashtra government has requested the railway ministry to float tenders for the 284-km long rail line, said an official spokesperson, that work on the project could start next few months. The rail line will pass through six divisions and 90 villages in Wardha, Yavatmal, Washim, Hingoli and Nanded districts and will be built on the special project status category. When commissioned, it will provide direct connectivity between Nagpur and Marathwada, as currently train journey between Nagpur and Nanded takes over 12 hours and very few travel by train between the two cities. According to the official, the land acquisition for Ahmednagar-Beed-Parli railway line was complete and construction could begin on it by the year end. Apart from this, an ambitious Nagpur-Mumbai communication super-expressway highway project also known as Samruddhi Mahamarg is being expedited on priority basis.
