Govt floating tenders for ₹1 lakh-cr road projects

The ministry of road transport and highways is set to announce 117 projects worth ₹1 lakh crore and is in the process of floating tenders. The renewed thrust is to ensure that construction activities are not stalled during the upcoming general elections. Flagship programs, including housing, urban affairs road transport and highways, are also pushing scores of projects in their respective jurisdictions. Under the Smart City Mission, the housing and urban affairs is in the process of actioning projects worth ₹4,000 crore and under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) the ministry’s Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee has cleared 864 projects worth ₹14,662 crore. In a bid to hasten other major projects, a meeting of the cabinet committee is slated to be held shortly to ensure project clearances before the model code of conduct comes into effect.
