In its quest to build world class road infrastructure in the border belt of north eastern region of the country, the Union Transport Ministry has decided to widen and rebuild the National Highway-44 in Tripura on "war footing", Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari said in a statement, adding that to improve connectivity in the state, the Centre has cleared the state government’s proposal on this score. In this regard, the transport ministry has directed the agencies concerned to complete the project as quickly as possible. The National Highway in question constitutes Shillong-Passi-C288 Badarpur-Agartala-Sabroom-Shillong-Nongstoin section. Ensuring the completion of the project within the stipulated period, the Union minister would monitor the progress of this highway project on a fortnightly basis, he said.
