The Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, in Chhattisgarh, has recently cleared a Smart City project on 1,000 hectares involving an investment worth Rs. 4,500cr. In this regard, a resolution was passed in the general body meeting of Mayor-In-Council (MIC), recently. Prior to this, the proposal was worth Rs. 3,500cr, which was hiked by Rs. 1,000-cr on the grounds that while state capital Raipur had forwarded a plan for developing smart city on 800 hectares of land, Bilaspur's bid is on a much larger area - more than 1,000 hectares and the cost of building the project scaled upto Rs. 4,500cr. Riding on BJP majority, the proposal was passed despite Congress' opposition pleading that the body must reveal the sources of funds before declaring the project, sources added.
