In a major booster to the road and highway sector, the Union government has recently extended the eight-lane Delhi-Amritsar express highway to Katra in J-K via Moga, Barnala and Jind Neeraj Bagga Amritsar. Shortly after getting ‘go ahead’ from the Central government, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has also approved the proposal for the mega project entailing a staggering investment of Rs.60, 000 crore. The highway would be turned from Moga to Gurdaspur to link it to Jammu and Kashmir, crisscrossing states like Haryana Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari said, adding that his ministry has directed NHAI to fast track the road project. He also directed NHAI officials to complete the formalities pertaining to Amritsar-Delhi highway by June this year and start the tendering process as quickly as possible.
