Govt Addresses 13,795 Accident Black Spots on National Highways

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is working to enhance safety on National Highways (NHs) by identifying and rectifying accident-prone black spots. So far, 13,795 such locations have been identified, with short-term safety measures completed at 9,525 spots and permanent rectifications at 4,777.
Short-term solutions include road markings, signages, crash barriers, and traffic calming measures, while long-term fixes involve geometric improvements, junction modifications, and construction of underpasses or overpasses.
All highway projects follow Indian Roads Congress standards and undergo regular safety audits at various stages. The government has also tightened quality control, ensuring strict compliance with contracts and penalizing failures to maintain construction quality.
