Government Targets 4.95 Cr Houses Under PMAY-G

The Ministry of Rural Development, under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), is steadfast in achieving the goal of "Housing for All" by 2029. Launched on April 1, 2016, the scheme aims to construct 4.95 crore houses, with 3.33 crore already targeted, 3.23 crore sanctioned, and 2.69 crore completed. Over ₹2.37 lakh crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries to date.
In a major boost, the Union Cabinet has approved 2 crore additional houses for FY 2024-29 with a financial outlay of ₹3.06 lakh crore. Madhya Pradesh has been a significant contributor to the scheme, with a target of 41.68 lakh houses, of which 36.8 lakh (88%) are completed. On January 15, 2025, 8.21 lakh additional houses will be allocated in the state.
The central government released ₹3,726 crore to Madhya Pradesh for FY 2024-25, with an additional ₹4,934 crore likely if funds are utilized on time. The estimated cost for completing FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26 targets in Madhya Pradesh is ₹30,672 crore, with the central share at ₹20,054 crore.
Technological innovations like the AI-enabled Awaas+ 2024 app and integration with schemes like MGNREGA and Jal Jeevan Mission have strengthened PMAY-G. Notably, 74% of houses are under women’s sole or joint ownership, promoting gender equality.
PMAY-G continues to be a cornerstone of rural development, ensuring dignity, empowerment, and secure housing for millions, fostering a brighter future for India's rural communities.
