Government of India launches Special Campaign 5.0 to boost e-waste disposal

The Government of India has launched Special Campaign 5.0, scheduled from October 2 to 31, 2025, with a focus on e-waste disposal under the E-Waste Management Rules 2022 of MoEFCC, space management, and improving workplace efficiency in field offices.
The campaign builds on the success of Special Campaign 4.0, held from October 2, 2023, to October 31, 2024, which set new benchmarks in cleanliness, waste management, and environmental sustainability under the Ministry of Coal.
During Special Campaign 4.0, more than 78.46 lakh square feet of space was cleaned, and 9,865 metric tonnes of scrap was disposed of, generating ₹38.27 crore in revenue. The Ministry of Coal emerged as the top performer in space freed and ranked fourth in revenue earned among all central ministries and departments. It also achieved 100% disposal of public grievances and PMO references, reviewing 71,632 files and weeding out 69,227.
The campaign featured several innovative initiatives, including AI-enabled bins by CIL for waste segregation and plastic disposal, "Waste to Art" projects such as sculptures made from scrap, and creative space utilization like converting unused areas into recreational facilities to enhance employee well-being.
Special Campaign 5.0 aims to continue this momentum by driving effective e-waste management, optimizing office space, and creating a cleaner, more efficient work environment.
