GMRCL fast tracks ₹12,020-cr metro in Surat

The construction work on the first phase of a 40.35-km metro rail network in Surat in Gujarat is all set to start very shortly and the entire project is slated to be commissioned in four years at an investment of ₹12,020 crore, said Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, (GMRCL), S S Rathod, claiming that the first phase will have two routes, one between Sarthana and Dream City, a distance of 21.61 kms, with 14 elevated stations and the other route will be from Bhesan to Saroli, a distance of 18.74 kms, with 18 elevated stations. The Union government had, in February this year, approved the state's request to release funds for the project, which it requires to complete the project in five years, managing director said, informing that the construction work will be undertaken early next year. Detail design work for the project has been undertaken by the GMRC and tender for the same is being issued shortly, he added.
