The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has recently approved the DPR of Gurugram metro route linking Huda City Centre with Sector 23 and the report has been submitted to Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC). Metro linking Dwarka expressway to Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and also sector 101 and 104 and sectors 4, 5, 10A, 10, 9 and 9A will have 22 stations. The metro project, which has been long due, is being jointly developed by GMDA and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited, at an investment of ₹1,785 crore and has been aimed at decongesting Gurugram.

Currently, two other metro projects are in pipeline — Mass Rapid Transport System and Rapid Rail Transport System— in the city. Once functional, these metro networks will help cut down dependency on private transport, thereby bringing down traffic congestion across the city. As a matter of fact, the government last year had given its approval to the metro project with a 16-km route connecting the Yellow line with old Gurugram but it remained in limbo due to various administrative reasons.
