In a major push to build affordable housing projects in the state’s capital, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has recently acquired land worth over Rs.2,000 crore to build nine floors multiple towers to provide low cost housing units to the homeless. The land parcels located at different places in Greater Hyderabad will dot two-bedroom (2-BHK) housing units, a flagship project of chief minister. Contrary to the expectations that land is not available in the state capital for the housing project and, even if available it is very costly, despite this officials have been able to get over 66 acres of land in various sizes, commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that dwellers of 38 slums have agreed to give up their land. The slum dwellers who are owners of this land will be provided 2-BHK units to be constructed on the land. The buildings would be on the lines of posh gated communities equipped with civic amenities to underground drainage, roads, water supply and other facilities, it is going to be a decent living in 2-BHK gated communities for slum dwellers, said an official spokesperson.
