Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal Freight Revenue Jumps to Rs 12,608 Cr in FY25

Gati-Shakti-Multi-Modal
Indian Railways has approved 306 Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminals (GCTs) since the introduction of the GCT policy in 2021. The policy enables cargo terminal development on both Railway and non-Railway land to boost freight movement and reduce logistics costs. So far, 118 GCTs have been commissioned with a combined traffic capacity of 192 MTPA, attracting private investment of about Rs 8,600 crore.

Freight revenue from GCT-handled traffic has grown sharply over the past three years. Revenue rose from Rs 2,901.86 crore in FY23 to Rs 7,712.36 crore in FY24, and further to Rs 12,608.05 crore in FY25, demonstrating the accelerating shift of cargo to rail.

In Maharashtra, including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, nine new GCTs have been commissioned with total investments of Rs 548.69 crore. Additionally, 91 works worth Rs 932.34 crore have been sanctioned for developing goods and parcel terminals across the state.

The expansion of Gati Shakti terminals is enabling faster cargo movement, helping reduce logistics costs, lowering emissions, and supporting India’s broader economic and infrastructure growth.
