The Patna Metro Phase 1 project
The Patna Metro Phase 1 project has achieved a significant milestone with the first tunnel breakthrough of TBM Mahavir at Patna University Metro Station on Line 2. This marks the breakthrough within the 8 km underground Package PC-03, connecting Rajendra Nagar and Patna Junction Railway Station. TBM Mahavir, a 6.65m diameter Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine, was constructed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (CRCHI). Larsen & Toubro was awarded the ₹1989 crore contract by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in December 2021. The Phase 1 project spans 39.1 km with 2 corridors, Line 1 (East-West) and Line 2 (North-South), and is expected to be completed by 2027, with the priority section likely to be finalized by August 2024.
