India's Wind Power Capacity Reaches 57.4 GW, Generation Rises to 106 Billion Units
The ministry said wind power capacity additions increased to 6,057 MW in FY2025-26 from 4,151 MW in FY2024-25 and 3,253 MW in FY2023-24. Wind power generation also rose to 106 billion units during FY2025-26, compared with 83 billion units in each of the previous two financial years.
According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Report 2026, India ranked fourth globally in cumulative wind energy installations as of 31 December 2025.
Gujarat leads the country with an installed wind capacity of 16,086 MW, followed by Tamil Nadu (12,273 MW), Karnataka (8,896 MW), Maharashtra (6,318 MW) and Rajasthan (5,516 MW). Gujarat also recorded the highest wind power generation during FY2025-26 at 33,706 million units, followed by Tamil Nadu (24,200 MUs) and Karnataka (18,804 MUs).
The government said it continues to promote wind energy through measures including the Green Energy Corridor Scheme, waiver of inter-state transmission charges, renewable consumption obligations, offshore wind policies, repowering initiatives, green open access rules and transmission infrastructure expansion to support the country's renewable energy targets.
