NCRTC Signs PPA for 110 MW Solar Plant to Power Namo Bharat Corridor
The solar project, estimated to cost around Rs 450 crore, is expected to be commissioned within 24 months. Power generated by the plant will be supplied through the Uttar Pradesh state grid to NCRTC substations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and distributed across the Namo Bharat corridor.
Under the agreement, NCRTC will procure electricity from the plant at a fixed tariff for 25 years, providing greater predictability in energy costs and reducing the corridor's dependence on conventionally generated power.
Electricity currently accounts for around 30-35% of the operational cost of the Namo Bharat corridor. The captive solar project is expected to reduce annual electricity expenditure by around 25%.
The project is also estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.77 lakh tonnes annually, along with lowering emissions of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide.
The agreement was signed between NCRTC and NIRL NCRTC Renewables Ltd (NNRL), a joint venture between NCRTC and NIRL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Neyveli Lignite Corporation.
The project is being positioned as a renewable energy initiative for regional rapid transit and metro systems and could serve as a model for integrating captive renewable power into urban and regional transport networks.
