The city's East-West metro project is on the right track, as the construction of the metro along Brabourne Road in Kolkata is all set to be a smooth affair. The KMRC had identified nine insecure buildings along Brabourne Road which would pose a threat before metro construction once the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) reaches the site. Majority of the inmates of these century-old buildings had previously refused to move out of their houses. The first joint inspection took place recently to read the minds of the inmates who had shown little interest in evacuation of the buildings. This three storey building houses over 40 inmates, has been given an unsafe tag by the KMC building department. The KMRC officials accompanied by KMC building department’s senior officials, Kolkata police officers and top brass of Afcons’ building contractor. The team of the construction firm officials talked to inmates of the buildings about the urgency for an evacuation plan before construction for East-West metro begins along Brabourne Road. The marathon meeting with the inmates ended with fruitful results paving the way to go ahead with the construction work smoothly.
