DPR Completed for Assam’s First Underwater Tunnel Beneath Brahmaputra

The detailed project report (DPR) for Assam’s first underwater tunnel, a 33.7 km stretch between Numaligarh and Gohpur beneath the Brahmaputra, has been finalized.

Estimated to cost around ₹6,000 crore, the greenfield project aims to significantly boost regional connectivity while strengthening strategic security near the Arunachal Pradesh border. The DPR has been prepared and technically appraised by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).

The report will now be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval, with final clearance to be accorded by the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure.
