The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. (DFCCIL) has awarded Rs.2,864 crore contract to L&T to construct 222 km route of a single-track corridor from Khurja to Pilkhani in Uttar Pradesh. The dedicated freight corridors project will be funded by World Bank (WB). Khurja to Pilkhani route is a part of the 1,856 km Eastern Corridor proposed between Ludhiana (Punjab) and Dankuni (West Bengal). L&T officials said that its railways strategic business unit, a part of L&T Construction's transportation infrastructure business, has signed the contract with DFCCIL. Five other major EPC companies had bid for the contract. The scope of work includes construction of single railway track including yards, 75 major and 588 minor bridges, one rail over bridge modification, four railway flyovers, 21 stations along with construction of all associated works. The project is planned to be executed using completely mechanized means of track linking with the latest technology in railway construction.
