Decks cleared for NH, tunnel project in Kerala

Bypass Tunnel
The work on expansion of the Mannuthy-Wadakkanchery National Highway and Kuthiran tunnel in Kerala's Thrissur district is likely to start soon as the central government has agreed to clear bottlenecks stalling the projects. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the centre will extend all support, including financial aid to the contract company, to revive the projects. The minister has instructed that measures be taken to reduce accidents on the service road and in areas near the Kuthiran tunnel. The maintenance works of the current road should also be completed immediately. The state forest department has to give permission to complete construction of the tunnel, which is at a standstill due to the financial crisis of the contract company.
