In a fast tracked move on part of the state government, decks have been cleared to expand the metro line from Kabi Subhas-Noapara to the city airport and the project is expected to be completed in about two years. The rehabilitation program by South Dumdum Municipality has been cracked and completed, said official sources, adding that the East-West Metro Project, from Salt Lake's Sector-V to Howrah Maidan, is expected to be operational within the same period. The bottlenecks in case of the Joka-BBD Bagh Metro project have been resolved and the state has written to the Centre requesting for the amendment of the Acts regarding construction close to heritage structures in certain points in the city. As per the Acts, one cannot dig or run a construction within 100 metres of a heritage building but by the time the Joka metro line reaches BBD Bag area, there are quite a few heritage buildings, hence, the amendment of the Act is the need of the hour.
