DDA Accelerates Yamuna Vanasthali Wetland Restoration Under Riverfront Development Project

Riverfront-Project
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has fast-tracked the ecological restoration of the Yamuna Vanasthali Phase I wetland, located between Shastri Park red light and Pushta No. 1 on the eastern bank of the Yamuna. Spanning 43 acres of litigation-free land, the site is a vital part of DDA’s ambitious Yamuna Riverfront Development initiative aimed at reviving the river’s floodplain ecosystem.

DDA will engage a specialised restoration agency and has allocated Rs 1.9 crore for the project, which is expected to be completed within six months. The restoration process will begin with clearing dense vegetation and invasive weeds, followed by deep soil tilling, root removal, clod breaking, rough dressing, and periodic flooding to eliminate regrowth. Once the terrain is stabilised, it will be prepared for planting native species to enhance biodiversity and improve the wetland’s ecological health.

The Yamuna Vanasthali project forms a crucial step in reviving Delhi’s riverine ecosystem, improving water retention, and restoring the natural floodplain landscape.
