Country's first under-river metro tunnel adopts European style

first under-river metro tunnel
Country’s first underwater metro rail tunnel is being executed by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation in the state capital of West Bengal. Kolkata Metro will have a European-style underwater tunnel as part of its East-West Metro project. Once completed, the Howrah Junction railway station (HWH) and the Sealdah railway station (SDAH) will be connected through the Kolkata Metro network. Kolkata Metro East-west corridor project will cut down travel cost and time of passengers travelling across the most populous areas of Kolkata. They will spend around one minute under the river traveling at a speed of 80 km per hour. The underwater tunnel being built 30 metres below the Hooghly river will have twin tunnels of 520 metres long; with one being East-bound and the other West-bound.
