CMRL Phase-II of Rs. 44,000-cr on anvil

The Phase-II project of the Chennai Metro Rail project (CMRL) company, which would expand the reach of Metro Rail to over 100 kilometers with an estimated cost of around Rs. 44,000cr, is expected to start later this year, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, who had inaugurated the operations of Chennai Metro Rail in June 2015 on a stretch of around 10 km, while one more stretch is in the final stages of starting operations. Currently, CMRL is getting an occupancy of around 10,000-12,000 people a day in the operational train and the tariff will decline with the increase in volume. Once the 45 kms covered, the company aims to transport 250,000 people in the beginning and gradually take it upto 700,000-750,000 passengers, the CM added.
