CMRL unveils fifth metro corridor worth ₹178-cr

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), which conducted a feasibility study for the Coimbatore metro rail project, has decided to create a fifth corridor to connect Vellalore and Ukkadam and has also identified two places at Press Colony near Periyanaickenpalayam and Chinniyampalayam to station the trains. CMRL had selected engineering and consulting firm Systra to conduct the feasibility study for the project. The report suggested four corridors whereby the first would be 26-km long between Ukkadam and Kaniyur and second covering 24 km between Ukkadam and Bilichi near Karamadai on the Mettupalayam Road. The third corridor will cover 42 kms between Thanneerpandal on Thadagam Road and Karanampettai on Trichy Road and the fourth will cover 44 kms between Karunya Nagar and Ganeshapuram. CMRL has now decided to create a fifth corridor, which will be 11 km long, connecting the integrated bus stand and will be constructed at Vellalore for directly connecting Ukkadam, at a cost of 178.26 crore.
