CMRL building 20-storey tower in Tamil Nadu

Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL)
The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has decided to build a 20-storey tower above the elevated depot-cum-station at Wimco Nagar in Tamil Nadu and is also contemplating building a four-level parking space below the stabling lines. The Wimco Nagar depot, which is a part of Phase-1 extension line from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar with nine Metro stations, is slated to be ready by the end of 2020. The tender for construction of the building as well as development of four-level parking space will be floated soon. The high-rise above the elevated Metro depot will help CMRL to generate additional revenue, and it is also planning to construct similar structures in the elevated depots, which will come up at Madhavaram and Poonamallee as part of Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail project. The Wimco Nagar depot is being developed as an elevated depot at a height of 12 mtr on 15,500 sq m area with 16 lines including one line for the station, linked to the mainline proceeding towards Wimco Nagar elevated station through a 600m link corridor. CMRL will also build a 7.5 m wide internal road around the depot, storm water drains, and a water tank with a capacity of six lakh liters, and another 10,000 sq mtr area near the elevated depot will be used to build passenger amenities, including parking space.
