The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has achieved its first-ever tunnel breakthrough at Shaft-4 in Wahal village under Package-1 of the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme augmentation project for Navi Mumbai. The milestone was achieved by Afcons Infrastructure, marking a significant engineering achievement in Cidco’s project history.

The package includes an 8.7 km long treated water tunnel, of which 5.52 km of tunnelling has already been completed. Once the entire tunnel network is commissioned, the project will increase Cidco’s water supply capacity from the current 150 million litres per day (MLD) to 270 MLD, addressing the growing water demand of Navi Mumbai’s expanding residential and industrial areas.
