Chandigarh gives go ahead to ₹200-cr structure

Chandigarh administration has given green signal to construct a multi-storey hostel in Sector 48, area of the Union Territory involving an investment of ₹200 crore. The building will house 1,495 rooms for doctors, nursing staff and BSc students of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) of Sector 32. The plan in this regard was prepared in consultation with the hospital authorities at 6-acres of vacant land in Sector 48. The total coverage area of the project is 6.10 lakh square feet, while 1.20 lakh square feet area is exclusively for parking purpose to accommodate over 500 vehicles. Besides, the basement parking facility, surface parking has also been marked in the project. Since the project is quite big and first-of-its-kind, it will require environment clearance from the competent agency. There will be five floors in the hostel for all doctors, nursing staff and students, said a senior official of the Chandigarh administration.
