Centre rolls out ₹56,000-cr cross-country metro projects
The government has recently put its final stamp on five metro rail projects across the country involving a whopping investment worth ₹56,000 crore, said, sources, elaborating that of the total number of projects, two are in UP, one each in Gujarat and Bihar and the first phase of Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) in NCR and the construction work for all of them is set to start very shortly. Sources claimed that the Public Investment Board (PIB) has taken up all the projects for Agra, Kanpur, Patna, Ahmedabad and the RRTS between Delhi and Meerut. Prior to launching the projects, PIB approval is mandatory as central government puts equity in all metro projects where the works are executed by an entity like DMRC and the Union government and the states concerned have 50-50 partnership. Sources said adding that while RRTS phase-I would cost around ₹32,000 crore, the Kanpur and Agra Metro projects would require about ₹12,000 crore and that these projects command a combined length of 62 km. The total cost of Patna metro rail project, which includes the cost of land, is about ₹13,000 crore.
