The highways and shipping ministry have already prepared a list of about 500 road infra projects commanding a length of 15,000-km to be awarded very shortly. The identified highway projects entail an investment of about Rs 1.8 lakh crore, said official sources, adding that the works identified by the shipping ministry are related to port development and some projects relating to the development of waterways and construction of jetties across ports in the country. The pace will continue as the government is bringing more existing roads under the NH network. The government has awarded highway projects covering 34,000 km in three years and the number will increase as it is awarding more projects in the next one and half years. They said adding that there is greater monitoring of some of the projects scheduled for completion in February to April 2019 to expedite their completion.
