Centre Approves ₹2,787 Cr for Secretariat & Housing Projects in Amaravati

The Union government has granted in-principle approval for two major infrastructure projects in Amaravati, with a combined cost of ₹2,787 crore. The approved projects include the construction of a Common Central Secretariat and General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) for central government employees.

The Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance issued two separate memos, endorsing the proposals submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Both projects will be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The Common Central Secretariat is estimated to cost ₹1,458 crore, while the GPRA project has an outlay of ₹1,329 crore. Though proposed in 2018, both projects were delayed due to the uncertainty surrounding Amaravati's status as the capital over the past five years. The recent approval marks a significant step toward strengthening central government infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
