Stung by the dilly dallying attitude of the Delhi government, the central government has recently taken over two vital infrastructure projects from the local government and now the construction work will be carried out by CPWD on fast tracked basis. The projects included the construction of a flyover at Northern Mahipalpur Airport Road and the corridor improvement at Kashmere Gate which also included construction of a ramp. PWD has been working on the two projects for the past two years and had even got the plans approved from UTTIPEC. In the Rs.188 crore flyover projects at Mahipalpur Bypass Road, the plan is to provide direct access to airport commuters from south Delhi. In the Kashmere Gate project, there is a plan to construct an up-ramp for U-turn to join with existing elevated loop at ISBT Kashmere Gate. Both the projects are aimed at decongestion arterial roads. However, PWD claimed that the delay in execution was due to land and design related issues. In the Mahipalpur project, there was an issue as the land belongs to DDA while in the Kashmere Gate project, there was some design changes proposed in order to ease congestion.
