CCEA clears ₹7,662-cr cross-country highways

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), spearheaded by the PM, has given its approval for rehabilitation and upgrading of two-lanes into four lanes with paved shoulders and a length of over 780 km in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. The projects involve an investment of ₹7,662.47 crore, which includes a loan component of ₹3,500 crore. The loan assistance of the World Bank will be under the Green National Highways Corridor Project (GNHCP) and includes maintenance of these National Highways for five years and ten years in the case of flexible pavements after completion of construction work, said official sources, who informed that the project comprises four components: sustainable development and maintenance of national highways, institutional capacity enhancement, road safety, and research and development.
