CCEA approves Rs.2,729 cr for track doubling

To ensure smooth flow of vehicular rail traffic in the area, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), has approved Rs.2,729.10 crore for the doubling of 100.6 km-long Muzaffarpur-Sagauli and 109.7 km-long Sagauli-Valmiki Nagar rail lines in Bihar, said an official spokesperson. While Rs.1,347.61 crore will be spent on doubling of tracks and Rs.1,381.49 will go for the electrification work of rail tracks. These projects will cover Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, and West Champaran districts. Currently, passenger trains suffer congestion on these routes and stoppages on Muzaffarpur-Valmiki Nagar route as the line capacity utilization is upto 213%. In view of this, together 38 mail and express trains are running on this section with thousands of passengers travelling daily. Additional capacity will ease congestion and allow faster and reliable movement with minimum delays alongside the move will enhance safety through more availability of maintenance blocks, he added.
